You can find Ellen Sabin today in a barn, camera in hand, as she photographs a five-year-old Amish child harnessing her pony’s cart for her trip to school.

Her introduction to the Amish came as a result of mentoring with fine art photographers Jay Stock and Gail Nogle.  They led Ellen deep into the Amish communities of Pennsylvania, resulting in some of her most rewarding work.  Their mentorship continues to influence her art today.

For twenty years Ellen operated a portrait studio in Dallas, Texas, where she photographed children and families. Starting with medium-format film and later in digital SLR, her work hangs in the homes of many loyal clients.

Ellen finds beauty and interest in the everyday. The breadth of her current work encompasses daily life, social issues and travel.

Born in Quincy, Illinois, she holds a B.A. in Mass Communications from Truman State University. When not out exploring, Ellen calls Raleigh, N.C. home.
